Mac Maude Memorial Golf Tournament

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

As you know, we were snowed out for our original date of March 29, for our inaugural Mac Maude memorial Golf Tournament. After some negotiating with Cottonwood, we have come up with a new date for our first annual Mac Maude memorial Golf Tournament. Saturday April 26th @ Cottonwood golf course.

With April being much sunnier, and a much better time for golf, we’re expecting a better turn out for this event. The same rules will apply, shot gun start, cart, dinner, and silent auction to follow the tournament. This is a great way to get involved and help with the fundraising for the Mac Maude memorial scholarship fund, and also help out the Intermediate Timbermen. Fun to be had by all, as we’ll have long drive challenge, putting competition, and as always trophies for first place, and last place.

So come one come all, this is an event for a good cause, and a great way to kick off the start of everyone lacrosse schedule.

Registration is taking place now, and you can register on-line @ www.nanaimotimbermen.com.

Hope to see you all there!

Senior C looking for players

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

The newest Senior C lacrosse league on the Island is looking for players. League organizer Pat O’Dwyer said, “We are getting a great registration and turn out for Sr. C, but to achieve our goal we need more participants. The more players we get to register, the cheaper the cost for floor time will be. We already have uniforms, and we already have balls, and a good influx of registered goaltenders.”

O’Dwyer also mentions that the league will be playing under Masters Lacrosse rules - “which means no direct contact.”

With Ice coming out in less then a week and games continuing through July, the hope is that “teams can play 1 game per week, and have 1 throw around/practice per week.” O’Dwyer also highlights that the league is willing to work with anyone interested “if it’s a matter of money and cost, a payment plan can be worked out, if we get enough bodies and participants it could be less as $150 per player. This is a great opportunity to get the Sr. C league off the ground we’re hoping that this year a few teams, next year more teams, and in the near future a full Sr. C league just like hockey is done in this community. Left Coast Lacrosse

Thank you all for your patience. We recently moved and had some hardware fail when we set back up. We had to find alternate hosting and should be stable again from here on out.

We still expect it to take a few days to get the forum back up and still hope to be able to restore all of the data. Several modifications were made to the forum coding so we can’t get the databases restored until we get the code changed as well. This may prove difficult but worse case scenario, we’ll have the forum back up without restoration by mid-week.

Thank you.

Masters Hold Open House & Invite Newcomers To Try Lacrosse

March 31st, 2008 · No Comments

The Nanaimo Timbermen Masters Lacrosse Club are hosting an open house at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, Tuesday April 8th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm prior to their first practice of the year which will begin at 9:00pm.

The purpose of the open house is to provide a forum for those new to lacrosse or who haven’t played in while to come back and check out Masters Lacrosse. Current and soon to be retired Masters players will be on hand to explain Masters rules, equipment needed and any other questions that might come up.

Our goal for this program is to provide former players, minor lacrosse coaches and lacrosse dad’s a place to play. The team created will compete in the Canadian Masters Lacrosse Championships June 28th -30th at a venue on the lower mainland yet to be determined.

While tournament playing eligibility is limited to players who are older than or will turn 35 years of age in 2008, younger players are welcome at practices if there is room. The Nanaimo Masters will hold practices every Tuesday & Thursday at 9:00pm beginning April 8th at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Exhibition games are scheduled throughout the season.

Those interested in attending the open house and would like to participate in the practice are welcome provided they have their own lacrosse stick, gloves, slash guards helmet and facemask. Specific Masters Rules and equipment information will be available at the open house.
